All Saints' Church Choir

All Saints Church has a long tradition of high-quality choral music. The choir sings Eucharist every Sunday morning, and Choral Evensong twice per month.
Julian Parkin became our Choirmaster in September 2008.
Join The Choir
The choir is recruiting singers in all parts.
In particular, we are interested in choristers
(7 to 18 years old) to sing treble/ soprano
and adults to sing alto, tenor or bass. A bursary is paid to choristers and scholarships are available to sixth form and university students. The choir sings quality sacred music from the 9th to the 21st centuries and have a vibrant social focus that culmiriates in a cathedral visit each year in August. In 2009 we spent four days at York Minster.
The choir has its own website, www.allsaintschoir.co.uk, where you can find out a lot more about the choir, including ways to join.
Organ
The original organ, described as a 'neat little organ' when it was installed in 1820, was replaced in 1879 by the comprehensive four-manual organ by William Hill which you see today. It has, however, undergone considerable alteration over the years. It was rebuilt in 1925, new speaking stops were added to give it the style of that time, and its original character was largely lost. In 1981/2 it was altered again, and an attempt was made to restore some of the 'Hill sound' to the Great section.
Organ recitals are a regular feature of All Saints' musical life. From time to time we have a Celebrity Organ Recital, at which an organist of international reputation is invited to play, and on Bank Holidays between Easter and the autumn there is a recital, usually by our organist or one of his colleagues, in the morning, followed by a Ploughman's Lunch in the Urquhart Room. The Bank Holiday recitals are free to the public.
The church is a popular venue for concerts by orchestras and choirs. Its size makes it possible to accommodate a full orchestra and choir, and it can house a large enough audience to make a concert commercially viable.
See Events page for any forthcoming concerts - For links to orchestras and choirs who use this church for venue throughout the year.
