All Saints', Leamington Spa: Hill organ

The original instrument, described as a 'neat little organ' when it was installed in 1820, was replaced in 1879 by the comprehensive four-manual organ by William Hill & Son that is there today. This Hill organ has, however, undergone considerable alteration over the years: when it was rebuilt in 1925, new speaking stops were added to give it the style of that time, as a result of which its original character was largely lost; so in 1981/2 it was altered again, and an attempt was made to restore some of the 'Hill sound' to the Great section. Organ recitals are a regular feature of All Saints' musical life. From time to time there are Celebrity Organ Recitals, given by an organist of international reputation, and on the spring and summer Bank Holidays there is a morning recital at 11am, usually given by our organist, Cynthia Hall, or one of her colleagues, followed by a ploughman's lunch in the Urquhart Room
